Hello! My name’s Tommy Booker, owner, operator and lead technician of Tommy’s Tunings. I’m based out of Richmond, Virginia but happily provide tuning, repair, regulation and restoration services within a 2-hour radius of Richmond.

I began my musical journey as a 5-year old when I wrote my first song on all the black keys of my grandmother’s piano. From there I fell in love with everything piano and music-related, taking lessons into my collegiate career and playing in bands and ensembles from 4th grade until today. The genres of musical ensembles I’ve been in now range from one end of the spectrum to the other: classical, jazz, rock, reggae, ska, pop, soul, country, hip-hop, jam, progressive and world music.

As it pertains to my interest and pursuit of a career in piano technology, that fire wasn’t sparked until early 2025 when a friend, musical colleague and piano technician came to my home to tune my piano. I can only assume that until that point my heart, mind and body hadn’t yet developed and experienced enough to appreciate and become enamored by all that goes in to the art of tuning a piano; because as I watched him, I fell in love with the patience, diligence, finesse and creativity that’s needed to make a piano sing. Soon after that he briefly became my mentor, until it was obvious to him that I needed further instruction from his mentor. And the rest, as they say, is history. My lovely wife Brandi and I decided to start this business in the name of music and community.

In the short while that I’ve been doing this full-time, I’ve already tuned for churches, schools, homes, government organizations and concerts for symphony orchestras. And through all my years as a pianist and member of various, diverse musical groups I have already developed a style and taste for tuning that truly brings out the full potential of the piano.

My approach to tuning is one revolving around an open communication and honesty between myself and the pianist. By working together, I’ll aim to make your piano sound how you want it to, while giving it the dynamic range, color, subtlety, stability and versatility akin to the best concert pianos.

As my daily routine also consists of practicing and performing on the piano and giving piano lessons, my life revolves around anything and everything piano. This means that you can rest easy that I will always know what your piano needs to perform at its best and be able to provide it to you with passion, experience and a deeply-set tonal memory of how any piano should and can sound.
